The Devil Makes Three, California’s sensational alt-country and neo-trad artists are bringing their signature sounds to Saint Andrews Hall!
The Devil Makes Three was formed in Santa Cruz in 2002 and consists of guitarist Pete Bernhard, upright bassist Lucia Turino, and guitarist and tenor banjo player Cooper McBean. The trio is deeply rooted in the blues and country music but it also incorporates elements of bluegrass, ragtime, and jug band traditions. The band self-released its eponymous debut album in 2002 and even though it failed to make it on the charts, the album’s 2007 re-release saw it reach #7 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass albums chart. The band’s second album (Longjohns, Boots and a Belt) was released in 2004, followed by a live album (A Little Bit Faster and a Little Bit Worse) in 2006. The band got a record deal with Milan Records (under which their debut album was reissued) and their third studio album (Do Wrong Right hit) #1 on the Bluegrass albums chart in 2009. They released another live album (Stomp and Smash) in 2011 and followed it up with I’m a Stranger Here in 2013. The albums peaked at #4 and #2 on the chart respectively. Pete has also released 2 solo albums; Things I Left Behind and Straight Line.
