Richard Paul “Rick” Astley was born in Newton le Willows (England, United Kingdom) in 1966 and is a singer, songwriter, musician, and radio personality. He began his musical journey at the age of 10 by singing in the church choir. During his school years, he formed many local bands and played the drums in them. He went on to become the drummer of soul band named FBI and decided pursue a solo career when the band’s guitarist and lead singer left. His first single When You Gonna (a joint effort with Lisa Carter) did not make it to the charts but his follow up single (Never Gonna Give You Up) turned out to be his breakthrough. His rich, deep voice combined with dance pop, made the song an immediate success. He went on to have a stellar career with 8 studio albums, 5 compilation albums, and 15 more singles. He’s received many accolades including a BRIT Award (for Best British Single) and a MTV Europe Music Award (for Best Act Ever). He’s also been nominated for a BBC Music Award (for Radio 2's Album of the Year), a Robert Award (for Best Original Score), and a Grammy Award (for Best New Artist).
