Rich Homie Quan (birth name Dequantes Devontay Lamar) was born in Atlanta in 1989 and is a rapper, singer, and songwriter. His musical style is best described as a blend of Southern rap (a subgenre of hip hop that emerged in the Southern United States, especially in Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Memphis, and Miami, and is considered a third major American hip hop genre, after East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop), trap (a subgenre of Southern hip hop that originated in the 1990s and is characterized by ominous lyrics, heavy kick drums from a Roland TR 808 synthesizer, double time division hi hats, and layered synthesizers), and he cites Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I., Lil Boosie, Lil Wayne, Kilo Ali, Outkast, and Goodie Mob as his main influences. He’s had a stellar career with 13 singles, 7 mix tapes, and he’s received many accolades including a BET Award nomination for (Best New Artist), 4 BET Hip Hop Award nominations (for Rookie of the Year, Best Mixtape, Best Club Banger, and People’s Champ), and a iHeartRadio Music Award nomination (for Hip Hop Song of the Year). His debut studio album (Rich As In Spirit) is set for release in 2017.
