Iced Earth, Florida's sensational heavy metal artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Saint Andrews Hall!
Iced Earth was formed (under the moniker Purgatory) in Tampa in 1985 by guitarist and songwriter Jon Schaffer and drummer Greg Seymour. The band's been through many line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Jon (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals, and occasional lead vocals), Brent Smedley (drums), Stu Block (lead vocals), Luke Appleton (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jake Dreyer (lead guitar). Their musical style is best described as a blend of heavy metal (a subgenre of rock that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and features a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness), power metal (a subgenre of heavy metal that blends traditional metal with speed metal, often within symphonic context, and is also characterized by a more uplifting sound), and thrash metal (an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by its fast tempo and overall aggression, frequent use of fast percussive beats and low register guitar riffs, overlaid with shredding style lead work, and lyrics often dealing with social issues and reproach for The Establishment). They’ve had a stellar career with 12 studio albums, 2 live albums, 3 compilation albums, 5 extended plays, 5 singles, 10 music videos, and 3 video albums.
