Howard Jones, England’s sensational synth pop and new wave artist is bringing his signature sounds to Saint Andrews Hall!
John Howard Jones was born in Southampton (Hampshire, England) in 1955 and is a musician, singer, and songwriter. He was influenced by music at an early age through his brothers’ (all musicians in their own right) band (called Red Beat). He began his musical journey at the age of 7 by taking lessons and when he was in his teens, he joined his first band (a progressive rock group called Warrior). He enrolled in the Royal Northern College of Music but dropped out to play in various local jazz and funk bands. In the late 70’s, he started to perform as a solo artist with synthesizers and drum machines. He honed his craft for a few years and the hard work paid off with him getting a record deal in 1983. He released his debut single (New Song) in September of the same year and it hit #3 on the UK Singles chart. His debut studio album (Human’s Lib) came out a year later and it topped the UK Albums chart. He went on to have a stellar career with 12 studio albums, 3 live albums, 9 compilation albums, 1 extended play, and 30 singles.
