Hoodie Allen, New York’s sensational alternative hip hop artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Saint Andrews Hall!
Hoodie Allen (birth name Steven Adam Markowitz) was born in 1988 in Long Island and is an independent rapper. He began his rap journey by writing lyrics as a child and would rap at house parties. He went on to form Hoodie Allen; a duo consisting of himself on vocals and his childhood friend Obey City (real name Samuel Obey) on production. Steven wanted a name that “would stick in peoples' minds and be a little bit funny and representative of who I am.” So he used his childhood nickname (Hoodie) and played off of renowned filmmaker Woody Allen to come up with Hoodie Allen. In 2010 the duo parted ways and Steven continued making music and kept the name. He went on to have a stellar career with 2 studio albums, 3 extended plays, and 15 singles. His debut studio album (People Keep Talking) hit #8 on the US Billboard 200 chart and his follow up release (Happy Camper) topped Billboard’s Rap Albums chart. He’s also collaborated with renowned artists such as Jhameel, Chiddy, Kina Grannis, Ed Sheeran, Travis Garland, Meghan Tonjes, and Blackbear and KYLE. He’s also toured with The Cataracs, Das Racist, Chiddy Bang, Mike Posner, Fall Out Boy, Wiz Khalifa, and RJD2.
