Caravan Palace, France’s sensational electro swing and new wave artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Saint Andrews Hall!
Caravan Palace was formed in Paris (France) in 2008 and consists of Zoé Colotis (vocals), Arnaud Vial (guitar and vocals), Hugues Payen (violin and vocals), Camille Chapelière (clarinet and saxophone), Charles Delaport (double bass and electronics), Antoine Toustou (electronics and trombone), and Paul Marie Barbier (percussion and vibraphone). Their musical style is best described as blend of electro swing (a genre that combines jazz and vintage/modern swing with electronic dance music to create a dance floor focused sound that’s more readily accessible to the modern ear but that also retains the feeling of live brass and the energetic excitement of early swing recordings) and new wave (a genre of rock music that moved away from smooth blues and rock and roll sounds to create pop music that incorporated electronic and experimental music, mod, and disco). They cite Django Reinhardt, Vitalic, Lionel Hampton, and Daft Punk as their main influences and they released their eponymous debut studio album in 2008. It hit #11 on the French chart and was widely praised for its traditional jazz inclinations. They went on to have a stellar career with 2 more studio albums, 2 extended plays, and 8 singles.
