AJR, New York’s sensational indie pop artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Saint Andrews Hall!
The band was formed in 2005 by the Met brothers (Adam, Jack, and Ryan) and they started their musical journey by busking in Central Park and Washington Square Park. While their musical style is broadly classified as indie pop (a subgenre alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differs from indie rock to the extent that it is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free), it also includes elements of pop, doo wop (a style - developed in the 1940s from R&B, harmony vocal group, a cappella, negro spirituals, barbershop, gospel, ballad, blues, jump blues, and swing – featuring vocal group harmony, nonsense syllables, a simple beat, sometimes little or no instrumentation, and simple music and lyrics), electronic, and dubstep (a genre of electronic dance music that originated in England and features overwhelming bass lines, reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals). The brothers cite The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Vampire Weekend, Imagine Dragons, Kanye West, Macklemore, twenty one pilots, and Fun as their main influences and they’ve released 4 extended plays and 3 singles. They’ve also been the opening act for Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Hoodie Allen, Lindsey Stirling, The Vamps, The Wanted, Train, Andy Grammer, We the Kings, Ingrid Michaelson, and American Authors.
