Aesop Rock, New York’s sensational hip hop artist is bringing his signature rhymes to the Saint Andrews Hall!

Aesop Rock (birth name Ian Matthias Bavitz) was born in 1976 and is a hip hop recording artist and producer. He began his journey in rap during the early 90s and he cites Public Enemy, BDP, KMD, and Run DMC as his earliest influences. He also took a liking to rock music (in particular, that of Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, and Ministry) after being introduced to it by his brother. It wasn’t long before he was playing the piano and bass and he eventually got his hands on a sampler. Asked about his stage name, he replied: “I acquired the name Aesop from a movie I had acted in with some friends. It was my character's name and it sort of stuck. The rock part came later just from throwing it in rhymes.” He went on to be at the forefront of the underground and alternative hip hop acts that emerged during the late 1990s and early 2000s. He’s had a stellar career with 7 studio albums, 9 music videos, 3 extended plays, and 10 singles. He’s also been a guest artist on tracks by Atmosphere, Rob Sonic, The Mountain Goats, Cool Calm Pete, and many others.

Don’t miss your chance to see the artist known for his rapid fire lyrics, stuttering beats, and murky, atmospheric production aesthetic!
